Boys & Girls Clubs provide a place where all youth, no matter their circumstances, can make great discoveries about themselves and engage in educational and recreational activities. And it’s all done in safe environments and led by positive role models and leaders.
All 4 of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lakeland & Mulberry are home to 21st Century Community Learning Center programs. These programs are funded by a grant through the Department of Education. The 21st CCLC program allows clubs to have additional resources to assist members in reaching their academic goals. The program is focused around a Project Based Learning model which lends itself well to the fun, hands-on atmosphere we always try to maintain at the clubs!
We employ quality youth development professionals and certified teachers to guide members towards their goals. Teachers and tutors work hard to fill the academic gaps and turn struggles into successes while transforming learning into a fun and hands on experience.
While we recognize the important of academics we also recognize the importance of social and physical health and well-being. A child struggling to "fit in" or work with others will continue to struggle academically. Also, a hungry child isn't going to be focused on the math assignment they need to be completing. By focusing on the whole child we hope to give our members the skills, resources and confidence needed to succeed in any situation life presents them.
